staatslabor: Constitution permits innovation
At the start of the successful kick-off event for the staatslabor, Vice Federal Councillor Jörg De Bernardi glanced at the federal constitution as he stated with amusement: “… the federal administration is allowed to be innovative.” This opens the doors for three years of staatslabor. The programme focuses on supporting the state and the public sector through innovative methods and technologies to develop effective solutions for social challenges and find available options more quickly. A network of experts from professional fields such as design thinking, behavioural sciences and open data are available to exchange ideas and offer project consulting. The staatslabor also aims to serve as a platform for information on best practices in innovation in the public sector. Those present were unanimous in their evaluation of this first step: being innovative means investing less energy in avoiding mistakes and daring to experiment.
