A large part of Switzerland’s film heritage is not permanently accessible to the public and is even threatened by decay. The Solothurn Film Festival and the Engagement Migros development fund have therefore taken the initiative of making the most important films available online. More than 100 key works of Switzerland’s film heritage will be accessible around the clock and become widely known through filmo streaming project. Independent experts in Swiss film are selecting the focus of film history according to aesthetic, cultural and historical criteria. These films will be re-digitised, subtitled in the national languages and made available online. Some are being restored by the Cinémathèque suisse national film archive. Additional material and background information on the history, reception and restoration of the individual films will complete the collection and are being uploaded onto a site aimed at attracting a broad spectrum of viewers. A selection of the films will be presented at various Swiss film festivals before the streaming service is launched.
